PSA 10: What It Means and How Much More It's Worth Than a PSA 9

PSA 10 is PSA's highest grade: a virtually perfect card. What it requires, how it differs from a PSA 9, how to grade from Mexico, and how much was paid for PSA 10 sports cards on Onda.

PSA 10 is the highest grade from PSA, the most popular grading company for sports cards: a virtually perfect card. In Onda shows, the median price for a PSA 10 sports card was $1,500 MXN, compared to $680 MXN for a PSA 9 and $65 MXN raw (ungraded).

These are different cards, so use this as a reference point, not a strict rule.

Grading means sending a card to a company that authenticates it, assigns a grade, and seals it in a slab with a certificate number. PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) grades on a scale from 1 to 10.

SurfaceStain-free; allows for a minor printing flaw

PSA 9 vs PSA 10

A PSA 9 (Mint) has a single minor flaw, such as a slight print defect or slightly off-center alignment (PSA guide). Sports Breaks adds that a small wax stain or slight whitening on the edges can also result in a 9 (1:52 mark). To the naked eye, they look identical; under a magnifying glass, they don't.

Keep in mind: grading doesn't automatically multiply a card's price on its own. People send their best cards to be graded. A cheap card won't become expensive just because it's inside a slab.

How to Grade Cards from Mexico?

On April 3, 2025, PSA paused direct submissions from all countries outside the United States, including Mexico, due to tariff regulations (PSA announcement). Using a US return address does not bypass this restriction, according to the same notice. As of October 22, 2026, no reopening announcement has been made. The practical option is submitting through a middleman via the PSA dealer directory.

  1. Inspect the card under good lighting: corners, edges, surface, and centering.
  2. Compare sales for PSA 9 and PSA 10. If the price jump doesn't cover the grading costs, sell it raw.
  3. Protect it using a penny sleeve and a semi-rigid card holder (video by TCG KINGS).
  4. Select the service tier. Standard costs $59.99 USD per card, with a maximum declared value of $1,000 USD and a turnaround time of 90 to 100 business days; Priority costs $79.99 USD (PSA, October 22, 2026).
  5. Add up all expenses: middleman fees, shipping, insurance, and taxes.
  6. Verify the certification on psacard.com/cert.

A valid certification number isn't enough: counterfeit labels exist with real cert numbers (PSA cert). Compare the card inside the slab with the official cert photos and description. During a live show, ask the seller to show the slab from multiple angles on camera.

Every purchase includes 14 days of protection from the date of purchase. If there's an issue, contact the seller through the app within 5 business days of receiving the item; the Terms (20.1 and 20.2) cover items not as described and counterfeits, provided objective evidence is presented.
